AI Education Across the Curriculum

Artificial Intelligence

Harnessing the power of AI to enhance student learning

View all Artificial Intelligence projects

Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming our world and reshaping the workforce. We’re both teaching about and with AI. Students need to develop AI literacy to critically evaluate AI technologies, converse and collaborate with AI, and use AI as a learning and communications tool. With our innovative web-based educational software, students can apply machine learning to statistics problems without the need to code, explore language-based AI applications throughout the curriculum, and get assistance in their engineering designs from an AI mentor. Professional learning opportunities are opening the doors to teachers to learn new AI skills and techniques, too.

For example,

  • In collaboration with the University of Florida, Texas Tech University, WestEd, and the Florida Virtual School, we’re developing AI literacy in middle school and high school students by integrating AI learning in math classes for virtual schools. Read about AI4VS.
  • With the University at Buffalo and the University of Michigan, we’re powering a virtual design mentor with AI to help students creatively explore ideas within engineering design problem contexts. Read about Mobile Online Studio.
  • In partnership with Perkins Access Consulting at Perkins School for the Blind, we’re leveraging generative AI technologies and cutting-edge large language models (LLM) to create a multimodal data exploration environment that will enable blind and low-vision students to interact with data in CODAP. Read about Data By Voice.
  • Students can learn how AI works, including live simulations of Markov models and text analysis and how it applies to natural language processing. Read about StoryQ.
  • We’re developing a semester-long curriculum and datathon to teach high school students about data science, AI, and unintentional bias in the healthcare industry to prepare underrepresented students for STEM jobs. Read about Data Science, AI, and You in Healthcare.
