The GENIQUEST project has been featured in the October issue of the National Science Teachers Association’s (NSTA) peer-reviewed journal for secondary science teachers, The Science Teacher. The article, in the New Web Tools and Technology issue, describes how the project uses a multi-layered genetics model to permit students to breed dragons and examine their genetics.
GENIQUEST is an exploratory project funded by the National Science Foundation and is a project from the Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance (MMSA). The Concord Consortium and The Jackson Laboratory are collaborators with MMSA on this project, designed to bring instruction about cutting-edge genetics techniques to secondary students. The project is followed up by Geniverse, a sister project from the Concord Consortium, which is currently expanding this work into a full project developing a game environment to support genetics and bioinformatics learning.
