Data Science and the Modeling Classroom: A Conversation with Chad Dorsey and Emmanuel Schanzer

Chad Dorsey, Emmanuel Schanzer

11:00 – 12:30 PM, Virtual Workshop

This panel will explore the integration of data science within STEM education, focusing on its role in enhancing modeling-based teaching practices. Participants will discuss how data science bridges the gap between domain knowledge and analytical techniques, fostering critical thinking, skepticism, and real-world problem-solving skills. Key topics include defining data science in the classroom, managing and interpreting data effectively, incorporating skepticism, and leveraging modeling approaches to engage students in meaningful exploration. The conversation aims to inspire educators to equip students with the tools to navigate and critically evaluate complex data-driven challenges in today’s world.
