Learn to distinguish between exponential and logistic growth of populations, identify carrying capacity, differentiate density-dependent and density-independent limiting factors, apply population models to data sets and determine carrying capacity from population data. Make predictions on graphs and interpret graphical data to analyze factors that influence population growth.

HS-LS2-1. Use mathematical and/or computational representations to support explanations of factors that affect carrying capacity of ecosystems at different scales.

HS-LS2-2. Use mathematical representations to support and revise explanations based on evidence about factors affecting biodiversity and populations in ecosystems of different scales.

HS-LS2-6. Evaluate the claims, evidence, and reasoning that the complex interactions in ecosystems maintain relatively consistent numbers and types of organisms in stable conditions, but changing conditions may result in a new ecosystem.

It would be very helpful to post the lesson plan and student assessment documents on this page, as well as on the SmartGraphs Curriculum page. I think many teachers will miss those resources if they access the activity through this page.

If I wanted to use this in my classroom, how would I be able to collect students' answers and see who completed the activity?

I must be doing something wrong, but when I launch the activity, it won't let me select an answer to the question on the first page. Can you help?

could this activity be completed in a 40 minute period with students who have low to moderate reading and vocabulary skills?
