SmartGraphs Success

Our SmartGraphs project team conducted additional experimental research this fall. Nearly three dozen eighth and ninth grade physical science teachers in Pennsylvania used SmartGraphs activities with 75 different classes. One finding that has emerged quickly is that teachers were very satisfied with the online activities. Based on more than 300 times using one of the activities, in 94% of instances teachers agreed that the activity helped their students meet important learning goals, and in 96% of the cases teachers reported they would use the activity again in the future. The five motion-related physical science activities are freely available at learn.concord.org/smartgraphs.

SmartGraphs has also developed an online authoring system allowing teachers and curriculum developers to create and distribute their own activities, free of charge. We will soon announce a contest to create new activities incorporating graphs, for use in mathematics, science or social science classes. Stay tuned for more information about rules and prizes!
